Arc just recently introduced me to the magical world of homemade Big Macs. Dear lawdy pearl it’s been a loooooong time since I’ve had one of those. I’ve really been making a effort to duplicate things at home rather than buying them because then at least I know exactly what I’m eating, even if it isn’t super great for me. And where I can, I try to make it a better-for-you-but-still-tastes-good version.
Well, truth be told, you can make any kind of burger at home, but it’s all about that secret sauce. Secret sauce = Big Mac flavor. And now you have the secret too…
Copycat Secret Sauce
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 TBSP French dressing
4 tsp sweet pickle relish
1 TBSP finely minced white onion
1 tsp white vinegar
1 tsp sugar
1/8 tsp salt
Mix all ingredients in a bowl and you’re done. You might want to do it a little bit ahead of time to let it sit. If you need to get it to the right color, you might need to add more French dressing or ketchup.
If you need a French dressing recipe (because I never buy salad dressing), here you go. This will make waaaaaaay more than you need, but you could cut it in half and have some dressing leftover for a future salad.
French Dressing
1 cup white sugar
1 cup olive oil
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup vinegar
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 TBSP Worcestershire sauce
1 clove garlic
Mix all those ingredients together in a bowl and you’re ready to go. You can sub out onion powder and garlic powder if you’re in a pinch. As long as the flavor profile matches, you should be fine.
I’m adding some garlic salt instead of garlic cloves, hope it’s fine, as I don’t wanna use garlic directly in the French Dressing…
Yep! It’s noted in the recipe that subbing our garlic powder is fine. Like I mentioned in a different reply, I like using garlic powder and salt separately to better control the amount of salt, but use what works for you!
Hey, thanks! I will be using garlic powder and salt in the yummy Secret Sauce 🙂
