I love cooking fruit. Especially when it’s out-of-season-not-quite-ripe fruit. Stone fruits are especially good for this, but so are pears and apples. The best part is that it’s a super easy dessert and it looks super fancy. If you want to impress someone with dessert, this is a good one to go with. Forget about pretty cakes and baked goods. You can follow this recipe and swap out the pears with pretty much any stone fruit.
Sautéed Pears
Bosc pears
Unsalted butter
Brown sugar
Budget 1/2 to a whole pear per person, and learn to eyeball your butter and brown sugar. Cut your pears into bite size chunks. Melt some butter in a pan over medium heat. Start with about 3 tablespoons and go from there. Toss the pears into the butter and sauté until tender. Add in your brown sugar. I’ve honestly never measured this and don’t know where to begin, but start with a few tablespoons and see where that goes. Cook everything together until the sugar melts into the butter. Serve the sautéed fruit over some good quality vanilla ice cream and top with some fresh raspberries. OMG. YES.
PSST! If you’re doing this with apples, throw in a little cinnamon too. Hell, throw a little cinnamon in anyway, regardless of the fruit you’re using. But just a little bit.
